History of PPIM

Referring to the Government Regulation Number 30 of 1990, postgraduate education is an academic education path managed by the Postgraduate Education Program, while professional education, such as specialist doctor education, is returned to the faculty. Postgraduate education graduates have the title of Magister or Doctor, while professional education graduates are called specialists.

Based on PP. 60 of 1999 and through the Decree of the Chancellor of the University of Indonesia, Number 312, 313 and 363/SK/R/UI/1999, officially starting from February 2000, only multi-disciplinary programs are coordinated by the Postgraduate Program, while the Postgraduate study program is mono-/ oligo-discipline that coordinated by the same or relevant faculty. With the issuance of PP. 152 of 2000, the University of Indonesia officially became a State-Owned Legal Entity (BHMN). The Postgraduate Program in Management is part of the Postgraduate Program at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia. The Postgraduate Program in Management was started in 1983, through the decision of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No.577/DIKTI/Kep/1983. At its inception, the teaching and learning process was carried out at the University of Indonesia-Salemba campus, but due to the limited space, since June 7, 1997 the Postgraduate Program in Management moved its operation to the University of Indonesia-Depok Campusm which then allows the study program to not only utilizing its own lecture facilities, but also operate lecture facilities from FEB UI (library, computer laboratory and others).

Following market demand, the study program was organized to provide general learning experience on management. However, with the rapid development of the Indonesian financial sector, the program refocused its act to deliver more knowledge on financial issues. Furthermore, starting from the 1997/1998 academic year, the study program established a new area of study, marketing specialization. Later on, along with its development in the world of academics, banking and finance were added to the list, followed by strategic management. The response to the opening of the new area of interests turned out to be positive. As a result, these specificities have been continued until today.
