Microeconomics of Banking

After completing this subject students are expected to be able to evaluate and analyze financial intermediaries in the economy, structural weaknesses of the banking sector, bank runs, and systemic risk. Accordingly, after finishing the course the students are expected to be able to use the theory in analyzing and understanding some current banking sector issues. Microeconomics of Banking is a new branch of Microeconomics that has been developing since the last two decades, as a result of tremendous research in the most controversial issues of contemporary theory of financial intermediation. This course is a synthesis of courses in Corporate Finance, Financial Markets and Institutions, Money and Banking, Industrial Organization, and of course Microeconomics.
