Market and Monetary Environment

Upon completing this course, students are expected to be able to: (1) review  comprehensively the anatomy and innovation of Indonesian financial systems and the role of financial institutions (banks, non-banks, and capital markets) in the economy; (2) analyze the concepts and operations of financial market and the monetary policy; (3) evaluate the objectives of monetary policy, its instruments and the impact to the economy; (4) employ various analytical tools with a comprehensive knowledge of banking and other financial institutions’ products; (5) analyze and build economic forecast using monetary, capital market and financial market indicators. This course discusses financial system and its elements–monetary authority, capital market, financial institutions (depository and non-depository)–with particular focus on the intermediary function. It will also discuss the concept and development of financial markets, lending market (bank and non-bank institutions), capital markets, and foreign exchange market activities. Moreover, it will explore the methodology to determine lending rate, bond yield, stock prices, and exchange rates associated with operations in banking, capital market and other financial institutions.
